Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne has signaled a bold step toward deeper regional integration, proposing the launch of a ferry service to directly connect Antigua and Barbuda with Dominica.
Speaking alongside Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the People’s Place, PM Browne emphasized the growing need to strengthen economic and social ties between the two island nations.
At the heart of his remarks was a vision for improved transportation links—specifically, a dedicated ferry route that would make travel between the islands more accessible for both citizens and visitors. The initiative, he said, would not only boost tourism and trade but also foster greater cultural exchange and regional cooperation.
“This is about making it easier for our people to connect, to do business, to share experiences, and to grow together,” Browne stated.
As discussions continue between both governments, the proposed ferry service could become a key pillar in advancing Caribbean unity and delivering tangible benefits across the region.
