The result marked Xabi Alonso’s first Clasico victory as manager, but the spotlight quickly shifted to Vinícius Júnior’s angry reaction to being substituted.
Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé starred in the win, combining for both goals in a dominant Madrid performance. Bellingham, back from injury, opened the scoring before assisting Mbappé for the second, as Real tightened their grip on the title race.
Yet Vinícius’s frustration stole the headlines. Substituted in the 72nd minute, the Brazilian stormed past Alonso and disappeared into the tunnel, returning only after several minutes. The outburst comes amid reports that contract negotiations between the player and the club have stalled.
Spanish football journalist Guillem Balagué told the BBC the reaction reflected deeper issues. “He feels the club is now building around Mbappé and that he’s being overlooked,” Balagué said. “That frustration came out on the pitch.”
Despite the distraction, Alonso’s tactical plan earned praise. Madrid pressed aggressively, kept their shape, and suffocated Barcelona’s midfield. “Alonso got it right,” Balagué said. “They were compact, disciplined, and efficient. Barcelona couldn’t find space to play.”
Bellingham thrived in a freer role, linking with Mbappé while Eduardo Camavinga’s energy stabilized the midfield. The approach contrasted sharply with Barcelona’s disjointed display. Missing key players such as Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, the Catalans lacked rhythm and defensive cohesion.
“They’re easier to attack now,” Balagué noted. “The pressing isn’t coordinated, and their back line made basic mistakes. Mbappé’s goal showed that perfectly.”
Lamine Yamal and Marcus Rashford, two of Barcelona’s main threats, struggled to make an impact. Rashford provided an assist but was largely isolated as the team failed to sustain possession.
For Madrid, the win reinforced Alonso’s growing influence and the team’s renewed balance. But Vinícius’s outburst highlighted an internal challenge that could test the young manager’s leadership.
“Rebuilding that trust will take time,” Balagué warned. “It’s a fragile relationship, and Madrid can’t afford for it to unravel.”
