A proud son of Liberta, Alvin is the youngest of nine children born to the late Yvonne and Elvin Thomas. He remains deeply connected to the land and people who shaped him, even as his career has taken him far and wide.
Raised in a large, close-knit family, Alvin credits his upbringing for instilling the values of discipline, hard work, and respect. He shares a strong bond with his siblings, and together they continue the legacy of their parents by operating the family farm—a proud tradition rooted in the soil of Liberta. Alvin actively supports the farm to this day, despite the demands of his aviation career.
As a child, Alvin worked alongside his father on the family farm, learning the meaning of responsibility, discipline, and care for the land. These early experiences instilled in him a deep sense of purpose and shaped the grounded, focused nature that would later serve him well as a pilot.
Alvin attended Liberta Primary School, then moved on to All Saints Secondary School, where his curiosity and drive began to take clearer shape. He later studied at the Engineering Department of the Antigua State College, setting the foundation for his future in aviation and technical disciplines.
Now living in St. Paul’s with his wife and children, Alvin continues to honor the values he learned in Hamlet. He is known in both communities for his quiet leadership, generosity, and commitment to uplifting those around him.
Alvin’s aviation journey began at Phoenix East Aviation in the United States, where he earned his commercial pilot’s license. He went on to further his qualifications through ALL ATP, and completed professional certifications in aviation safety, human factors, and project management at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of the West Indies.
He began his flying career in 2004 as a First Officer with Caribbean Star Airlines. His initial years were spent flying the Dash 8 aircraft, building a strong foundation in regional aviation. In 2013, Alvin transitioned to the ATR 42/72/600, the aircraft with which he has since become most associated.
Throughout his career, Alvin has developed a reputation for professionalism, precision, and a steady command presence in the cockpit.In May 2025, Alvin was promoted to Line Training Captain at LIAT 2020—a major milestone and a reflection of his leadership in aviation. In this new role, he is responsible for guiding the professional development of LIAT’s pilots, ensuring they meet the airline’s standards for safety, performance, and conduct.
As Line Training Captain, Alvin now plays a central role in shaping the future of Caribbean aviation, mentoring both new recruits and experienced crew members. His ability to lead with patience, clarity, and humility has earned him great respect from across the airline industry.
Though his professional life continues to rise, Alvin remains grounded in service. He continues to contribute to the family farm, participates in community life, and quietly supports youth development in Liberta and St. Paul’s.
When not flying, Alvin is an avid football fan and lifelong supporter of Manchester United. He rarely misses a match and enjoys the camaraderie that comes with being part of the global football community.
