Kevin Durant is heading to Houston.
The 15-time NBA All-Star and two-time champion has officially been traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets in a historic seven-team deal—the largest trade in NBA history.
The blockbuster move, which includes 13 players and multiple future draft picks, was finalized on Sunday with the official start of the NBA’s new league year. Along with the Rockets and Suns, the trade involved the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The previous record for the largest trade was a six-team deal completed last summer when Klay Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks.
Durant, 36, adds another chapter to a storied career that already includes a league MVP (2014), two NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors, four Olympic gold medals, and more than 30,000 career points—making him just the eighth player in NBA history to reach that milestone.
The Rockets, who finished second in the Western Conference last season but were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, are hoping Durant’s arrival pushes them into true title contention.
“His skill level, love of basketball, and dedication to his craft have made him one of the most respected players of his generation,” said Rockets head coach Ime Udoka. “My staff and I are excited to work with him.”
Phoenix Suns general manager Brian Gregory expressed gratitude for Durant’s contributions during his time in Arizona.
As part of the trade, Houston also acquired 31-year-old Swiss center Clint Capela from Atlanta—marking a return to the team where he began his NBA career.
Phoenix, meanwhile, receives a package headlined by 18-year-old South Sudanese center Khaman Maluach, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The Suns also pick up forward Dillon Brooks and guard Jalen Green from Houston, as well as Atlanta wing Daeqwon Plowden, Minnesota forward Rasheer Fleming, and Golden State guard Koby Brea. Additionally, Phoenix receives two future draft picks.
The Hawks receive forward David Roddy, cash considerations, and a 2031 draft pick swap from Houston.
Brooklyn acquires two future second-round picks while sending forward Adou Thiero to the Lakers along with a draft pick.
Golden State lands Australian forward Alex Toohey—originally drafted by Phoenix—and guard Jahmai Mashack, the final pick in the draft from Houston.
Minnesota picks up two future draft selections from Phoenix, along with 18-year-old Australian center Rocco Zikarsky, a Lakers draftee.
While complex in structure, the deal represents a significant reshuffling of talent across the NBA landscape, with Kevin Durant’s move to Houston serving as the centerpiece. The Rockets now boast one of the most experienced and lethal scorers in the league, while Phoenix begins a new chapter with a promising group of young talent and future assets.
