In a continued effort to empower his constituents through education, Member of Parliament for St. Paul’s, the E.P. Chet Greene, has awarded scholarships to cohort of 20 residents for professional and academic development courses at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus.
The initiative, in its third year, will allow recipients to participate in a diverse range of short-term courses running from Monday, April 7 to Friday, June 13, 2025. This marks yet another stride in MP Greene’s long-standing commitment to ensuring access to education for the people of St. Paul’s.
The courses on offer reflect a broad spectrum of professional disciplines and community needs. They include Spanish Level 2, Meteorology: Observing, Recording and Predicting the Weather, Leadership with Agility and High Performance, Cybersecurity – Threats and Mitigation, Quality Service Management and Tourism and Hospitality, Gerontological Care and Well-being in a Global Environment – Level 1 and Parental Skills: Infancy to Adolescent.
Speaking about the scholarship initiative, MP E.P. Chet Greene emphasized the importance of education as a transformative tool for individual and community advancement.

The selected courses have been carefully curated to provide practical and professional skills relevant to today’s job market needs. For instance, the inclusion of Cybersecurity comes at a time when digital literacy and online safety are critical for both businesses and individuals. Similarly, the Gerontological Care and Parental Skills courses address growing concerns around elder care and family development, while Leadership and Tourism focus on economic empowerment and national leading sectors.
The initiative has been well received by residents, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to expand their skill sets and advance their careers without the burden of financial strain. Noting that applications exceed available spots, Greene apologizes to the unsuccessful applicants and committed to “provide other opportunities”.
