A rainy September Saturday morning and our community is greeted with the sad news of the passing of our beloved villager, Mrs. Liddell Charles Jonas. Just one week ago, I was blessed to share a moment with Liddie at the hospital, and though we had hoped to see her comfortably at home this weekend, our loving God had a different, heavenly homecoming in mind for her this morning.
We, therefore, bond together in sorrow yet in steadfast hope. To her dear mother, Anna; her siblings, Trevor, Curtis, and Pat; to her children- Denny, Danielle and Denicia and to all who called her family, we extend our most sincere and prayerful condolences.
Liddie’s life was a testament of quiet grace. She was soft-spoken, yet her loyalty spoke volumes. She possessed an infectious smile and a laughter that, as Scripture says, was like “a medicine” that could light up any room. She communicated a deep warmth and wisdom without always needing words; she spoke with her eyes.
To her immediate family, please find comfort in knowing that: “While her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, may you find comfort in the countless memories of her love and the beautiful legacy of faith she leaves behind. She was your greatest champion and her love for you was her masterpiece.”
In moments like these, when loss seems to come so frequently, we are reminded of the fragile and fleeting nature of our lives here on earth. However, we are not without hope. We cling to the promise of our Lord, who said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25). We are further comforted by the truth that, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
May Liddie’s gentle spirit and unwavering faith serve as a lasting reminder to draw us closer to one another in love and to the Christian heritage that was the foundation of her life. We say goodbye to a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, a devout woman of God and a true lover of this community.
We commend her soul to her Creator, trusting that she will, on that great getting up day hear the divine words, “Well done, good and faithful servant… Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:23).
May her soul rest in eternal peace and rise in glory to meet her Lord.
