For years, the residents of Liberta and the wider St. Paul’s community, up to Hosford’s Hill, have waited patiently for a permanent solution to our water challenges. That wait has now borne significant fruit. On behalf of a grateful constituency, I extend my deepest thanks to the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) for the successful refurbishment of the Buckley’s Tank, which now makes 600,000 imperial gallons of water per day available to our communities.
This recent development is not merely an infrastructure upgrade; it is a vital injection of water security and a testament to what we can achieve through persistent collaboration. For too long, the uncertainty of water supply has been a burden on our households and businesses. Today, we can confidently say that a major step in the right direction has been taken.
As your representative, I must first thank you, my constituents, for your profound patience and unwavering trust. You trusted that together with APUA, we would resolve this issue. While our work is not completely done, this sustainable distribution of 600,000 gallons daily marks a turning point. It is the direct result of your perseverance and the faith you placed in our collective effort.
Our focus now remains steadfast on the future. I will continue to work with and rely on APUA to deliver on two critical projects: the expansion of the Pigeon Point Reverse Osmosis Plant and the commissioning of the Patterson’s Tank.
These initiatives will not just bolster our water security; they are the final pieces needed to end the cycle of water shortages for good. In the interim, I assure you that my commitment to ensuring water delivery to the most affected areas will continue until every pipe runs consistently.
This achievement is a collective victory. I must salute the dedicated management and technicians at APUA whose expertise made this possible. I also thank my colleague, Minister Melford Nicholas, for his patience and support.I know he grew weary of my weekly rants on your behalf. Most of all, I thank you, the people of this constituency, for enduring and persevering. Thank you for trusting me and staying with me throughout the difficult years.
When we view this milestone alongside our other progress, the newly built and refurbished clinics in Cobbs Cross and Liberta, the ongoing road upgrades, our advanced preparations for the 2025-26 Yachting Season and our focus for Health Month 2025 on ‘Healthy Lifestyles…..the power of personal control’, we see a constituency on the rise.
As we head into the end of the year and reflect on these achievements, I am filled with gratitude for this kind, loving, prayerful and resilient community. The tide has turned. I pledge that with continued partnership and your valued support, the new year, 2026, will be even better.
