In the heart of our neighborhoods, where the echoes of history and wisdom linger, our elderly community membersoften sit in quiet reflection, longing not only for companionship but for care, respect, and meaningful support. Recognizing this, I remain steadfast in my role as Member of Parliament for St. Paul’s, actively working to develop initiatives and foster partnerships that ensure our seniors receive the dignity, attention, and assistance they rightfully deserve.
Bridging the Gap: The Need for Trained Caregivers
Through ongoing conversations and personal engagements within the community, one concern has repeatedly surfaced—the urgent need for well-trained, compassionate caregivers. Many elderly individuals require personalized assistance, yet a shortage of professional caregivers has left a gap in essential services. At the same time, this presents a valuable opportunity to empower community members by equipping them with skills and employment prospects in the caregiving field.
A Transformative Initiative: Training for Future Caregivers
To address this pressing issue, I am proud to launch an initiative that will train and certify five community members to step into caregiving roles. This endeavor is made possible through a partnership with Harrison’s Centre, which will offer a comprehensive three-month certificate program beginning March 3, 2025.
This initiative goes beyond simply filling job vacancies; it is about creating a network of care—a system where our elders feel valued, safe, and nurtured while providing meaningful career opportunities for those with a passion for service. The training program will emphasize:
