Celebrating Mothers: The Cradles of Civilization and Hope of Mankind

Today, I pause to honor the extraordinary women who shape our lives, our communities, and our world; our mothers. By definition, mothers are loving, caring, selfless, nurturing, strong and supportive. They are the cradles of civilization, the architects of character and the hope of mankind.

From the home to the workplace, mothers play countless roles with grace and resilience. They are breadwinners, educators, caregivers and leaders who are breaking barriers in traditional and non-traditional professions alike. I want to salute mothers who provide industry, drive national progress and offer political leadership with wisdom and compassion. Their contributions are immeasurable, their sacrifices often silent, yet their impact echoes through generations.

The Bible upholds the sacredness of motherhood, reminding us in Proverbs 31:25-28: *”She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Likewise, *Isaiah 66:13 assures, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you,” illustrating God’s love mirrored in a mother’s embrace.

On this Mother’s Day, I encourage all mothers to embrace the universal values of patience, kindness and unwavering love that define motherhood. Your strength inspires, your care sustains and your love transforms.

To my own mother, Mrs. Averil Greene, thank you for your endless love and guidance. To the mothers of St. Paul’s Constituency, across Antigua and Barbuda and to those whose wombs blessed me with the pride of fatherhood; I celebrate you today and always.

Happy Mother’s Day! May your day be filled with the same joy and warmth you so freely give.
